Why do stories matter?

To learn how to write is to learn how to live.

We cannot change what we see, but we can learn to change how we see it.

The stories we tell define who we are. They provide a record of our greatest aspirations and most intense fears. These stories are not descriptions of who we are or what we think. Rather stories enable us to discover who we are, not only what we think but why and how. Stories teach us about ourselves and others. Stories teach us about meaning in our lives, including the value of the monsters in our path.
